Brainspotting
This method is a powerful brain-body therapy that helps access and release trauma, stress, and emotional blocks by locating specific eye positions—known as brainspots—linked to stored experiences in the body. Discovered by Dr. David Grand in 2003, Brainspotting can be used in individual, couples, or group therapy and is effective for trauma, anxiety, depression, phobias, chronic pain, and recovery from injury or surgery. With the support of a trained therapist and the use of calming bilateral sound, clients can process unresolved material from either a calm or activated place in the body—without needing to relive the trauma at full intensity. Brainspotting is also used to support creativity, performance, and spiritual growth, offering a contained and gentle pathway toward healing and regulation of the nervous system.
Brainspotting (BSP) taps into a natural physiological system within the body and nervous system, providing a powerful entry point to process trauma, emotional stress, habits, and repetitive patterns. It works with how our brain and body store emotional experiences and sensory memories. By accessing a “Brainspot,” we engage deep brain structures—like the superior colliculi and brainstem—helping the nervous system process and integrate unresolved events in a gentle yet effective way.
Unlike many traditional therapies that rely more on thinking and talking, Brainspotting works at a deeper, subcortical level. This allows clients to access stored traumatic memories without becoming overwhelmed by the brain’s usual cognitive processing. Dr. David Grand introduced the concept of Dual Attunement, emphasizing the importance of both relational and neurobiological attunement in healing.
Brainspotting offers a safe and natural way to release what’s been holding you back, helping you move toward greater clarity, relief, and emotional freedom.
